The Owners
Marcus Jenkins is a consultant working for an international mapping company. He travelled extensively in his youth, giving him a taste for new cultures and living abroad. As well as co-authoring the first book, on which this site is based, Marcus took the fantastic photographs included on this website chronicling the Murcia area. If you’d like to use or purchase any of Marcus’ photographs use the contact form on this site.
Debbie Jenkins is an entrepreneur, author and publisher. A life-long city dweller she always wanted to own a place in the countryside. Now Debbie has got her wish living high in the hills above a village in rural Murcia. Her greatest excitement is in owning trees – hundreds of them!
In June 2002 Debbie and Marcus bought a small house, attached to some caves, with 6.5 acres of land and in September 2005 they moved into their wooden house on the land and now enjoy the Murcian lifestyle with their two mischievous dogs, Dani and Fuggles, their cats Randy and Catalina, and David the Rooster and the bokboks.
Their home is in the mountains near Corvera, 1 km away from a small village called La Murta, with a population of 101 people. The village is tidy and peaceful and inhabited by dedicated farmers.
One of their main goals at the moment is to get enough money together to rebuild and renovate the caves. When they’re ready you’re all invited to stay!
Their Moratalla Houses – they bought their large town house in the old part of Moratalla town because they fell in love with it. The town is so typically Spanish and the house is so beautiful that they couldn’t resist. They are slowly renovating the whole of the house in traditional but luxurious style so that other people can enjoy the town too. So far they’ve completed the bottom floor which is the self contained Calle Luengo Bajo.
The photos on the site have been taken by Marcus, unless otherwise indicated.
